Phil Griffin

Phil Griffin (* 1955 ) is an American journalist and producer and has been President of MSNBC since July 2008 .

Griffin graduated from Vassar College with a BA in English. He started his career at CNN in 1980 , where he was a producer for three years. He was a producer on NBC's Today from 1983 to 1987 and went to USA Today: The Television Show as a senior producer that same year . From 1988 to 1991 he was back on NBC's Today . From 1991 to 1995 Griffin was an American close-up segment producer on NBC and Nightly News . In 1995 he went to Los Angeles to direct coverage of the OJ Simpson trial .

Griffin has been with the station since MSNBC launched in July 1996. He became Vice President of Primetime Programming and Senior Vice President at NBC News in April 2005 . He has been the President of MSNBC since July 2008.

Griffin is married to Kory Apton and lives in Manhattan with their two children.
