Phil Hawksworth

Philip "Phil" Hawksworth (born April 28, 1913 , † January 17, 2003 ) was a New Zealand badminton player . Margaret Hawksworth , also a successful badminton player, was his wife.

Career

Phil Hawksworth is considered to be the pioneer of badminton in New Zealand. In 1936, 1937 and 1938 he won all three possible titles at the national championships : in singles, doubles and mixed (always together with his wife Margaret Hawksworth ). In the following year 1939 he won again in the men's doubles and in the mixed with his wife. After the championships were not held from 1940 to 1946, Hawksworth succeeded in 1947 again winning the mixed title with his wife. He achieved the last successes of his career in 1950 in singles and mixed games, this time not with his wife, but with the player M. Potts.
