Philipp Elkuch

Philipp Elkuch (born May 15, 1887 in Schellenberg ; † October 1, 1956 in Grabs ) was a Liechtenstein politician (FBP).

Job and family

Philipp Elkuch was born in 1887 as one of six children of State Parliament member Ludwig Elkuch and his wife Maria (née Brendle). Elkuch attended elementary school. In November 1917 he married Klara Ott, who came from Schaanwald . The marriage resulted in 15 children, one of whom died in childhood. Originally active in agriculture, Elkuch had to look around for an additional income as his family grew. During the First World War he began to work for the Feldkirch public utility . Afterwards he also worked at the Lawena plant in Schaan . He also worked in the insurance business as an insurance agent.

Political career

Elkuch was from 1932 to 1939 and from 1945 to 1949 for the Progressive Citizens' Party a member of the state parliament of the Principality of Liechtenstein . In the intervening years, from 1939 to 1945, he served as a deputy member of parliament. From 1933 to 1945 he was head of the community Schellenberg. As such, the community's water supply, which was under construction, took care of the construction of the new schoolhouse and the procurement of the necessary funds, the construction of the sawmill and the establishment of a modern dairy. Another project was the development of Schellenberg with a modern road connection to Bendern .

Prince Franz I awarded him the Silver Merit Sign in 1937 for his services . He died in an accident in 1956.

His son Edgar later also became the community leader of Schellenberg.
