Philipp Ludwig Arzt (* 1799 in Michelstadt ; † 1875 there ) was a German entrepreneur .

Life

Philipp Ludwig Arzt was born in Michelstadt in 1799. He came from a family that practiced the lathe trade until the beginning of the 19th century. In 1828, Philipp Ludwig Arzt first founded a cloth making business on the family estate at Bahnhofstrasse 11 . In 1830 he acquired a cutting and oil mill on the city limits to Erbach and had the first looms set up there in 1832 after some construction work . In 1841 he received the right to whitewash from Count Erbach and concentrated on the production of uniform fabrics. Among other things, he supplied the Princely Thurn- & Taxische General-Post-Direktion in Frankfurt am Main with uniforms .

Philipp Ludwig Arzt was married to Marie Katharine Schmucker, an innkeeper’s daughter from Steinbach in the Odenwald , since 1837 . The couple had four sons and four daughters. The son Michael Arzt (1841–1911), born in 1841, took over his father's company in 1873. At that time, this was already the largest employer in the area.

Philipp Ludwig Arzt died in his hometown in 1875 at the age of 75.
