Philipp Meran

Philipp Meran (born December 12, 1926 in Csákberény ( Hungary )) is an Austrian museum director and writer.

Life

Philipp Meran, a great-grandson of Archduke Johann , grew up on the family estate in Hungary until the family was expelled from their homeland in 1948 . Since 1949 he lived in Graz and became an employee of the Landesmuseum Joanneum , whose hunting collection he built up. From 1952 to 1991 he was director of the Hunting Museum in Schloss Eggenberg , a department of the Joanneum. The hunting museum has been located in Stainz Castle since 1997 .

Since 1976 Philipp Meran has published a total of 18 books with hunting stories in the style of Friedrich von Gagern as well as three non-fiction books. He is considered the most widely read German-speaking hunting writer today.
