Philip VIII (Falkenstein)

Philip VIII von Falkenstein (* after 1353 in Falkenstein; † March 21, 1407 ) was a scion of the Hessian noble family Falkenstein .

Philip VIII von Falkenstein was a son of Philip VI. von Falkenstein and his second wife Agnes von Falkenstein.

Evidently, before October 16, 1380, he married Elisabeth von Eppstein, who died in 1422 .

Life

From his father Philip VI. Tradition has it that he got deeper and deeper into debt and ultimately had to provide twenty of his castle and feudal men as guarantors or hostages. He got into a feud with his neighbors, the Lords of Reifenberg , who besieged him at his Königstein Castle. During the storming Philip VI fled. with Philip VIII and the other sons, but was captured and died a short time later. Philip VIII and his brothers had to buy their way out with the high sum of 10,500 guilders.

It is also known about Philip VIII that, just like his father, his financial circumstances were strained and he had to sell parts of the rule.
