Philipp Waibler

Philipp Waibler (born February 12, 1824 in Worms ; † December 24, 1902 in Darmstadt ) was a German university professor for mechanical engineering .

Life

Philipp Waibler was born in Worms in 1824 as the son of the district architect Anton Waibler and his wife Agnes Buchholz. After completing his studies, he came to the Higher Trade School, a predecessor of the TH Darmstadt , in 1848 as a teacher of mechanical engineering . On July 15, 1869 he was appointed a full teacher of engineering at the Grand Ducal Hessian Polytechnic School. From 1869 to 1872 he was the dean of the mechanical engineering school, which was incorporated into the TH Darmstadt in 1877.

In April 1872 he was appointed the first full professor for general mechanical engineering and mechanical technology at the Darmstadt Polytechnic. He was one of the founding fathers of mechanical engineering at the later TH Darmstadt. He retired in May 1883.

Waibler was part-time director of the library of the TH Darmstadt from 1872 to 1878.

Philipp Waibler died on Christmas Eve 1902 in Darmstadt. He was married to Emilie Jung.
