Philippe Della Casa

Philippe Della Casa (* 1962 ) is a Swiss prehistorian.

Life

From 1981 to 1989 he studied at the University of Zurich (1981–1984, 1986–1989) and the FU Berlin (1984–1985). Subjects: Prehistory and Early History, Classical Archeology , Ancient History . Additional training in anthropology , palaeozoology and Near Eastern antiquity (1989: Licentiate in Prehistory and Early History at the Phil. Faculty of the University of Zurich ( Margarita Primas ). Title of the thesis: «The Roman manor of Alpnach (Canton Obwalden) - aspects of the Roman Settlement of Central Switzerland »./ 1994: Doctorate at the Phil. Faculty of the University of Zurich (Margarita Primas). Title of the work:« The Bronze Age Necropolis Velika Gruda (Ops. Kotor, Montenegro) - Fund groups from the Middle and Late Bronze Age between the Adriatic and the Danube ».). From 1995 to 1997 he had a habilitation grant, a tri-national research project in the Alpine region. After completing his habilitation in 1999 ( venia legendi ) in the Department of Prehistory and Early History at the Phil. Faculty of the University of Zurich. Title of the publication: "Prehistoric settlement dynamics and resource use in the Alps" he was from 2000 to 2002 curator for the Iron Age section at the Swiss National Museum . From 2000 to 2001 he was visiting professor at the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne , UMR Archeologie et Sciences de l'Antiquité. In 2002 he was appointed to the Chair of Prehistory and Protohistory at the University of Zurich .

His main research interests are field and basic research, methods and theory building, especially in the areas of settlement and landscape development, economic and social archeology. The geographical focus is on Western, Central and Southeastern Europe, the temporal in the early and late Neolithic (Copper Age), in the Bronze and Iron Ages and the Roman period.
