La Mothe-Houdancourt

Philippe, comte de La Mothe-Houdancourt, duc de Cardone (* 1605 ; † March 24, 1657 in Paris ) was a French military leader and since 1642 Marshal of France and Pair de France . He was Viceroy of Catalonia and Commander in Chief of the French armies in Spain. His daughter was Charlotte de La Mothe-Houdancourt .

He was one of 12 children of Philippe, seigneur de La Mothe-Houdancourt, de Sacy et de Rucoin (1558-1652), and his third wife, Louise Charles du Plessis-Picquet, daughter of Antoine, seigneur du Plessis-Picquet, the he married on February 14, 1594. He was related to Cardinal Richelieu and the half-brother of the Marquis d'Houdancourt, as well as the brother of the Bishop of Mende, Saint-Flour and Rennes.

Marriage and offspring

On November 12, 1650 he married in Saint-Brice en Auxerrois, Louise de Prie (1624–1709), marquise de Toucy and "governess des enfants de France". They had three children:

  1. Françoise-Angélique (1650–1711), Duchesse d'Aumont through marriage to Louis-Victor d'Aumont.
  2. Marie-Isabelle-Angélique (or Marie Gabrielle Angélique) (1651–1726), Duchesse de la Ferté-Senneterre by marrying Henri-François de Saint-Nectaire.
  3. Charlotte-Éléonore-Madeleine (1654–1744), Duchesse de Ventadour by marriage to Louis-Charles de Lévis, duc de Ventadour, governess of Louis XV. and his children
