from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Philippine Night describes a custom in the night from April 30th to May 1st , which is mainly cultivated in Salzburg and in the Berchtesgadener Land . In the southern part of Berchtesgadener Land, the term Dugnacht is also used.

In memory of the apostle Philip , who is responsible for fidelity and order, everything that stands around loosely and is not properly kept is hidden by the young people of the respective place or collected in the village or church square, so that the ashamed owners can see it have to carry them home from there after the fair.

In recent years, however, this custom has often been abused by some of those involved to riot .
