Philippopolis
Philippopolis (Greek Φιλιππόπολις ) were called several cities in antiquity , especially at the time of Philip of Macedonia . The most important are:
- a city in Thrace, in the Roman province of Moesia inferior (Lower Moesia ), today's Plovdiv in Bulgaria, going back to it
- Philippopolis in Thracia , titular archbishopric of the Roman Catholic Church
- a city in Arabia, birthplace of the Roman emperor Philip Arabs , today's Shahba in Syria, going back to it
- Philippopolis in Arabia , titular bishopric of the Roman Catholic Church
- the Thessalian Thebes (Thessaly) , an ancient ruin site
