Philippos (General)

Philippos ( Greek  Φίλιππος ) was a Macedonian general in the 4th century BC in the early phase of the Diadoch Wars .

His origins are unknown, but he was a veteran of the Alexander Train . Apparently it belonged to as early as 321 BC. At the beginning of the first diadoch war, he joined the entourage of Eumenes , provided that he is identical with the officer of the same name who is mentioned in a fragment of Arrian's Diadoch story in the battle of the Hellespont . In 316 BC He commanded the right wing in the battle of Gabiene against Antigonus Monophthalmos , after which Eumenes came to an end by betraying his own men.

Philip apparently changed to the entourage of Antigonus, from whom he got in 314 BC. Together with Nearchus , Peithon and Andronikos was appointed one of the military mentors of the young Demetrios Poliorketes . After that his track is lost, he was no longer mentioned in the battle of Gaza (312 BC) . To what extent he was identical to the officer named Philippos, who died in 302 BC. Chr. As "friend" of Antigonus was appointed by him to command the Acropolis of Sardis , is unclear.
