Philippstor (Düren)
The Philippstor , first attested in 1252 and mentioned in a document in 1321, was a city gate in Düren in North Rhine-Westphalia . It was roughly at the confluence of Schenkelstrasse and Philippstrasse . It belonged to the Düren city fortifications and was the mightiest of the five city gates.
The gate was first mentioned in 1321 as the "porta Philippi". This gate castle consisted of three parts, namely the city-side, three-storey square tower, the front- building house for the gatekeeper and the second two-storey tower with a crenellated wreath , which was connected to the first by a doorway. Upstream of the Torburg was an important crossroads. The Philippstor was demolished in 1824.
