Philip Church

The Philippuskirche is a Protestant church in the Düsseldorf district of Lörick .

The church building was designed by the Düsseldorf architect Hans Junghanns and inaugurated on the 1st of Advent in 1964 . It was named after the apostle Philip . The church is on the border with Oberkassel and the Heerdter industrial belt , which stretches along Hansaallee, and forms the entrance to the then growing “new” Lörick. The old town center, Alt-Lörick, has a village character and is located far away. The nave, in the plan of a ship, has a bow and stern and is bordered on the left (and formerly also on the right) by a pond. Almost all rooms have generous window fronts and exits to the inner terrace, the water area and the garden.

A throwback to the time the steel processing industry front of the church the two form by the Ewald-Mataré -Students Friederich Werthmann designed doors made of chrome-nickel steel , which are in contrast to the glass front of the building and by the preparation in the earlier cast steel Boehler to Remember Lörick as a former steel site. The baptismal font is made of a material similar to that of the chrome-nickel-steel doors of the church.

In the 37 m high tower, which is visible from afar, hang four bells with the following inscriptions: “Come and see!”, “I am the way”, “I am the truth” and “I am the life”. The two-manual organ with 23 registers comes from the Hamburg company Rudolf von Beckerath Orgelbau .

Because of the declining number of parishioners, the church was abandoned. The deedication service took place on September 29, 2019.
