Philolaus is an impact crater on the moon on the northwestern edge of the lunar front . It has a diameter of 70 kilometers and is well preserved. To the west is the Anaximenes crater and to the north is the Anaxagoras crater . The rim of the crater is heavily terraced. Inside the crater there are two central elevations.

The crater was named by the IAU in 1935 after the pre-Socratic Greek philosopher Philolaos .
