Phoinix (Diadoche)
Phoinix ( Greek Φοινιξ, Latin form Phoenix ), from Tenedos , was a Greek general during the Diadoch Wars of the 4th century BC.
Nothing is known about a possible participation in Alexander the Great's campaign in Asia . For the first time Phoinix is at the beginning of the first Diadoch war 321 BC. In the wake of Eumenes of Kardia . In the victorious battle of the Hellespont against Krateros , Phoinix led the Eumenes cavalry. After Eumenes' end at the Battle of Gabiene in 316 BC. Phoinix switched to the side of Antigonos Monophthalmos , from whom he was appointed governor in the strategically important province of the Hellespontian Phrygia . But in 310 BC He revolted against Antigonus together with the general Ptolemy , but was subjugated again by his son Philip and then pardoned.
In 302 BC BC, shortly before the decisive battle of Ipsos , Phoinix fell again from Antigonos and went over to the side of Lysimachus , by whom he was appointed commander of Sardis . After that, nothing more of him has come down to us.
