The Phormidium Lake is a 2 km long and narrow lake on the West Antarctic James Ross Island . It is located on the southwest bank of Brandy Bay .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1993 after cyanobacteria of the species Phormidium autumnale , which populate the lake in red-violet mats.
