Phospholipase A 2 receptor (PLA2R) is a type 1 transmembrane protein that binds several types of phospholipase A₂ . PLA2R is one of the four mannose receptors found in mammals . PLA2R is mainly used in human kidneys from the podocytes of renal corpuscle expressed . Although the exact physiological significance of the phospholipase A 2 receptor is not yet known, it is clear that the receptor, by binding to the respective phospholipase, participates in both the positive or negative regulation of its function and in its elimination. In general, PLA2R is able to bind lectins of the ricin type.

Medical importance

The formation of autoantibodies against PLA2R leads to membranous glomerulonephritis , a chronic kidney disease that is associated with high protein losses through the urine and increasing kidney function impairment .
