A Phrygian-Chalcidian winged helmet, also known as a griffin comb helmet , is a protective weapon and a ceremonial weapon from Greece .
description
A Phrygian-Chalcidian wing helmet is usually made of bronze and is a hybrid of the Phrygian helmet and the Chalcidian helmet . The shape of the helmet resembles the Phrygian cap , the decorations on the forehead and the neck region, as well as the cheek flaps , were taken from the Chalcidian helmet. The helmet is made from a thick sheet of sheet bronze. The helmet bowl is almost hemispherical and has cutouts for the ears and a neck shield. The helmet ornament ( Zimier ) is worked separately and then placed on the helmet. The helmet wings are made of sheet bronze and are riveted to the sides of the helmet . The cheek flaps are hinged to the helmet bowl. The line-shaped and spiral-shaped decorative strips are also made of bronze and are soldered onto the helmet bell . A double decorative line is attached to the front, in between a plaque depicting a gorgon , whose wings form the side helmet ornament. Figurative representations can be seen on the cheek flaps, on the left a standing, winged Nike , on the right an Artemis wearing a knee-length peplos . There are several different versions that differ in design and decoration. The helmet was worn by soldiers from Greece.
