Phrynos painter

The Phrynos Painter was an Attic - black-figure vase painter , who in Athens v around the time 560-545. Was active.

Since the real name of the artist has not been passed down, he was given the emergency name Phrynos painter . It is named after the potter Phrynos , of whom three signed rim bowls are known, all of which were probably painted by this painter:

The London bowl in particular is considered a masterpiece of the black-figure style. The Phrynos painter is one of the so-called minor masters ; his representations are very fine in detail and vivid in style. Despite the allocation of further bowls, it has not yet been possible to define the painter's style more precisely.
