Phylogenetic Symposium

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Phylogenetic Symposium is a German-language conference that deals with fundamental questions about evolutionary biology. It is an informal meeting of predominantly German-speaking evolutionary biologists and foreign guests, which takes place at different locations at the invitation of the local residents. The general topic and venue are determined at each meeting by the plenum of the participants for the following year or, if possible, for the year after next. This procedure was decided in 1982 at the 25th Phylogenetic Symposium and renewed in 2008 at the 50th Symposium. The Phylogenetic Symposia are primarily forums for discussion. As a result, only a limited number of speakers are invited and the program leaves time for extensive discussion of current problems, concepts and research approaches.
