features

The wasps have a body length of 3 to 7 millimeters (females) or 4 to 10 millimeters (males). The head, and occasionally the pronotum, and the abdomen are black in the females, the thorax is red. The antennae and legs are dark brown, although in some individuals they can also be reddish in color. The second tergite is lightly haired at the base with three spots and at the end in the middle, often its narrow end fringe is also lightly haired. The third tergite is also hairy, and there are occasionally some such hairs on the parting. In contrast to the other related species, the thorax drops vertically immediately after the upright lamella. In the male, the head, thorax and abdomen are black, the thorax is red dorsally. The third antenna segment is noticeably longer than it is wide. The ocelli on the sides are very large with 1.0 to 1.75 times the distance to the compound eyes . The volsella is wide at the end and has two separate tufts of hair on the inside.

Occurrence and way of life

The species is distributed from France across Central Europe to Kazakhstan . It colonizes dry and temperature-favored open habitats such as dry grassland and extensively used vineyards and pastures. The animals fly from early March to early October. The larvae have been identified as parasites on the leaf beetle species Clytra quadripunctata .
