Pi Mensae b

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

π Mensae b ( Pi Mensae b ), also HD 39091 b , is a substellar object that, together with the planet Pi Mensae c, orbits the star Pi Mensae . The object has an orbital period of almost 6 years and is an exoplanet candidate.

π Mensae b was discovered using the radial velocity method ( Butler et al., 2001). The orbit has a major semi-axis of approx. 3.1  AU with an eccentricity of 0.64. The minimum mass M · sin (i) of the object is 10 Jupiter masses. Since the orbit inclination with respect to the line of sight is not known, it could be a brown dwarf or an exoplanet.
