Picnik was an online service for image editing . Picnik was founded in Seattle , USA in 2005 and was based there until recently. With Picnik, photos could be imported and edited directly from Facebook , Myspace , Picasa web albums , Flickr , Yahoo Image Search and Google+ . Images could also be uploaded and edited from one's own computer. Picnik was offered in 16 different languages, including German. Most of the tools in Picnik were free, with Picnik Premium there were extended image editing options for a monthly fee. There was also the option of registering free of charge, which enabled you to save your edited images on Picnik. Picnik was also integrated into the Flickr image hoster as an image editing tool on a smaller scale .

On March 1, 2010, Picnik was taken over by Google and finally discontinued on April 19, 2012. The functions from Picnik should be integrated into the image processing of Google+ (today: Google Photos ). Customers who paid for Picnik Premium within the last year got their money back. In addition, all chargeable functions from the announcement of the shutdown to the shutdown could be used free of charge by everyone. There was an online petition against the shutdown.
