The Pico Turquino is the highest point in Cuba with a height of 1974  m . It is located in eastern Cuba, in the Sierra Maestra Mountains , on the border between the two provinces of Granma and Santiago de Cuba .

vegetation

The vegetation is divided into several height levels . There are evergreen and semi- evergreen forests in the valley . This is followed by mountain forest with tree ferns . A pine forest grows at higher altitudes .

history

During the guerrilla fight against the Batista regime, the general command of the "Movement of July 26" ( M-26-7 ) or the rebel army under the leadership of the "Comandante en Jefe" Fidel Castro was at the foot of this mountain .
