Pierre-Paul Grassé

Pierre-Paul Grassé (born November 27, 1895 in Périgueux , † July 9, 1985 in the Château de Rouffillac in Carlux ) was a French zoologist and entomologist. He was an expert on termites .

Grassé received his doctorate in 1926 at the University of Montpellier on the protozoa in the intestines of termites. From 1929 he was a professor in Clermont-Ferrand, where he continued to deal with termites from Africa. In 1937 he became a professor at the Sorbonne and was from 1941 successor to Maurice Caullery on the chair for the evolution of living things (Évolution des êtres organisés). Like his two predecessors on the chair, he was a Neo-Lamarckist.
