Pierre Camelin

Pierre Camelin (born November 22, 1579 in Fréjus , † February 4, 1654 in Fréjus) was a French Roman Catholic clergyman , titular bishop and bishop .

life and career

Camelin came from a merchant family of Italian origin, who conquered all important offices in Fréjus during the late 16th century. His uncle Barthélemy Camelin was Bishop of Fréjus . He studied in Avignon and obtained a doctorate in theology. In 1621 his uncle made him coadjutor and titular bishop of Philadelphia in Arabia . After his uncle's death, he followed him in 1637. At the same time, his friend Antoine Godeau became Bishop of Grasse . Camelin settled the Saint Bernard sisters of Louise de Ballon in Fréjus in 1642 . He died in 1654 at the age of 74 and was buried in Fréjus Cathedral. There is also his monument, which shows him kneeling in prayer.
