Pierre Cogen

Pierre Cogen (born October 2, 1931 in Paris ) is a French organist , composer and music teacher .

biography

He received his first musical training as a member of the "Schola" of the "Petit Seminaire de Paris", which the Abbé Jehan Revert directed. In addition to studying philosophy, which he began after finishing school, he studied with Jean Langlais (organ) and Jean Lemaire (theory of harmony), partly at the École César Franck (organ with Édouard Souberbielle) and also at the Schola Cantorum (organ and improvisation with Jean Langlais, counterpoint and fugue with Yvonne Desportes. Further complementary studies followed with André Fleury and Pierre Cochereau ). He has taught numerous students in the fields of choir conducting , music education, organ, improvisation, harmony and counterpoint , etc. a. also in the context of summer academies, master classes and private lessons. In 1976 he was appointed "Organiste Co-Titulaire" by Jean Langlais at the Basilica of Sainte-Clotilde in Paris . From 1987 to 1994 he was “Organiste titulaire à plein titre” of this church.
