Pierre Lagrave (* around 1810 in Paris ; † July 1832 there ) was a French composer .

Lagrave studied violin at the Conservatoire de Paris with François-Antoine habeneck , counterpoint with François-Joseph Fétis and composition with Henri Montan Berton . In 1830 his composition O Salutaris was performed in a concert at the Conservatory . In 1831 he became a violist in the orchestra of the Paris Opera , which was directed by his teacher habeneck.

In the same year he competed for the Prix de Rome alongside Eugène Prévost , Antoine Elwart , Ambroise Thomas , Joseph Léfébvre and six other candidates and, after Prévost, won the premier Second Grand Prix with the cantata La Fuite de Bianca Capello based on a text by Amédée de Pastoret . In the following year he again took part in the composition competition with the cantata Hermann et Ketty (again based on Pastoret) in the expectation of winning first prize this time . Ambroise Thomas, Xavier Boisselot and Charles Alkan were the winners , while Lagrave received nothing. The disappointment led to a nervous crisis, as a result of which Lagrave died in early July 1832.
