Pierre Rabischong (* 1932 in Nancy ) is a neuroanatomist, specialist in neuroprosthetics and emeritus professor of medicine at the University of Montpellier and vice-president of the World Academy of Biomedical Technologies of UNESCO (WABT).

He was President of the International Society for Computer Aided Surgery , Director of INSERM (Institut national de la santé et de la recherche médicale) from 1971 to 1995 , Dean of the Medical Faculty of the University of Montpellier from 1978 to 1981, founding member of the Propara Center in Montpellier and the Afri (Associacion Française de Robotique Industrielle) , the ESEM (European Society for Engineering and Medicine) , the ISCAS (International Society for Computer Aided Surgery) and also member of various expert commissions of the European Union.

He became known as the coordinator of the Lève-toi et marche (SUAW) project, which attempts to help paraplegics through artificial muscle control and stimulation. Rabischong also worked with the project's first subject, Marc Merger , who was able to take his first computer-controlled steps in March 2000. On September 28, 1999, Rabischong and his team implanted an implant under the abdominal wall in a ten-hour operation, with the help of which some of his leg muscles were to be given computer-controlled impulses. Due to technical problems, this operation had to be repeated in winter; the second attempt was successful. A little later, another patient was treated with the implant.

Rabischong's technique is only suitable for patients with a relatively deep lesion of the spinal cord, a good general condition and leg muscles that can still be trained. It does not make the wheelchair dispensable either, since normal walking ability is not achieved, but can improve the general well-being.
