Pierre Souvairan

Pierre Souvairan (* 1921 in Switzerland; † April 16, 1998 in Niamey , Niger ) was a Swiss missionary.

Pierre Souvairan was the son of a Swiss racing driver. He studied agricultural science at the Polytechnic University in Zurich , and in the spring of 1942 he became the first brother of the Communauté de Taizé . In 1951 he went to Montceau-les-Mines , in 1957 he worked as a sent brother in Marseille as a bricklayer and stonemason. Souvairan had lived in Africa since 1967 and worked in the Nigerian Catholic mission.

In Niger, the enthusiastic diver also worked as a naturalist. He recorded the voices of 310 bird species in the Makalondi area (150 km southwest of Niamey on the road to Ouagadougou ).
