Pierre Vachon

Pierre Vachon (born June 3, 1738 in Avignon , † October 7, 1803 in Berlin ) was a French violinist and composer.

Live and act

Pierre Vachon came to Paris when he was around twenty, where he took violin lessons from Carlo Chiabrano . In December 1756 he successfully performed two of his own violin concertos at the Concert spirituel . In the 1760s, Pierre Vachon was first violinist in Prince Conti's orchestra . Vachon From 1772 to 1778 he lived in concert in London. From 1785 to 1798 he was concertmaster of the Berlin court orchestra . Five years after his retirement, he died in Berlin at the age of 72.

For the development of the string quartet , Vachon is considered one of the innovative French composers of the 18th century. He created more than 30 works of this genre. In addition, he wrote other chamber music works (especially trios) and several operas ("Renaud d'Ast", "Esope a Cythere", "Les femmes et le secret" or "Sara"), which were forgotten early on.
