The Pierre aux Couteaux (German: Messerstein ; also called Menhir de Diant) is a Neolithic menhir , east of Diant , in the Seine-et-Marne department in the Île-de-France region in France . The menhir has been classified as a monument historique since 1889 .

description

The menhir lies on a plateau with grain cultivation. It is 5.5 meters high, but the lower part is in the earth. It cannot be proven whether the stone belonged to a burial site or served religious purposes.

For a long time the stone was regarded as a memorial to the Battle of Dormelles . In this battle the brothers Theuderich II and Theudebert II defeated their uncle Chlothar II in Neustria in 600 .
