Old brewery

The Piesting brewery is located at the gateway to the Piestingtal. The brewery was founded in 1824 by the businessman Johann Nepomuk Müller. Since the financial situation had not improved even after the brewery was built, he had to file for bankruptcy in 1829.

After several changes of ownership, the brewery went to the beer keeper and beer silver-maker Tiberius Lehn from Saulgau in Baden-Württemberg (born around 1785 and master brewer in Schwechat ). The following generations of the Lehn family systematically expanded the brewery so that the brewery became one of the most important companies in the region. Inns in Wiener Neustadt, Bad Fischau and Berndorf also secured beer sales and income.

The brewery - which is now an industrial monument - was built between 1894 and 1904. The brewery remained in the possession of the Lehn family for a long time. The last owners were the two brothers Josef and Karl, who sold the brewery to Kosme in 1994. With the new owners, beer output could slowly be increased again, and at the same time the renovation of the historic brewery building began, which was completed in 2000.

Five years later, in 2005, the United Carinthian Breweries acquired the location of Piestinger Bier - and also the trademark rights. Since they had no interest in the production site, the brewery was closed immediately. The then owner then sold the systems abroad and half of the workforce was laid off.
