The Vereinigte Kärntner Brauereien AG (VKB) is a brewery company in Carinthia . The company includes:

• Villacher brewery in Villach
• Schleppe Brewery in Klagenfurt (takeover in 1993)
• Piestinger brewery in Markt Piesting (acquisition of trademark rights in September 2005; brewery closed since then)

In 1738 the Villacher brewery was first mentioned as a Steinbierbrauerei under the management of Jakob Fischer . In 1858 Johann Fischer had it converted into a modern kettle beer brewery. In the following years there was constant expansion and ongoing modernization. Fermentation and storage cellars with artificial cooling and an automatic bottle washing system were built as well as a double brewhouse and above-ground filling halls .

Branch offices were opened in Trieste , Carniola , Istria , Pula , Venice , Brindisi and Ancona .

In 1901 Johann Koutnik acquired the Fischer brewery and expanded it into a large-scale brewery using electricity for the first time. The First World War forced Johann Koutnik to put the brewery on a broader basis and, after the war, led to the establishment of the Vereinigte Kärntner Brauereien AG . Koutnik's partners were Peter Reininghaus , as well as his brother, the Göss brewery and other smaller breweries. In 1929, 55,000 hectoliters of beer could already be brewed in Villach .

In 1941 Johann Koutnik left his 50% stake to his daughter Dorothea Grubissich. After the Second World War , the badly damaged brewery was modernized and expanded.

When Dorothea Grubissich died in 1982, she bequeathed her 50% share to her granddaughter Madeleine Herberstein. On September 26, 1984, Herberstein brought her majority stake in the 100% owned Gambrinus Beteiligungs Aktiengesellschaft . The second 50% stake is owned by Brau Union , dating back to the 50% -Gründungspartner the United Carinthian breweries , brewery Puntigam the brothers Reininghaus brewery Göss and other small breweries (see above) in the Brau Union have been merged . Under the direction of the former CEO Johann Stockbauer, massive investments have been made since he was appointed sole director of the company in 1990.

The new brewhouse was opened on September 3, 2005 and the old brewhouse was adapted as an art house brewhouse for exhibitions. On January 1, 2009, Clemens Aigner and Josef Pacher took over the board mandate of retired Johann Stockbauer. In November 2014, contracts were signed, according to which the second half will also become the property of Brau Union AG at the turn of the year 2014/15. Thomas Santler has been CEO since 2016.

• The Villach Maerzen is a bottom-fermented, bright full beer with 11.8 ° wort and 5.0% Vol. Alcohol. In terms of quantity, it is the main variety.
• The Villacher Glocknerpils is a bottom-fermented, light, carbonated and hoppy beer with 11.7 ° original wort and 4.9% alcohol by volume.
• The Villacher Dunkel is a bottom-fermented, dark, slightly hopped special beer with a malty taste. 12.8 ° original wort and 4.9% vol. Alcohol.
• The Villacher Festbock is a strong beer with 16.4 ° original wort and 6.9% alcohol by volume. It is only brewed at Christmas and Easter time.
• The Villacher Zwickl is a bottom-fermented, light, unfiltered full beer with 11.8 ° original gravity and 5.0% alcohol by volume.
• The Villacher spring beer is a bottom-fermented light beer with 7.9 ° original wort and 3.3% vol. Alcohol content.
• The Villacher Senator is a bottom-fermented, strong, slightly bitter special beer with 18.8 ° original wort and 5.5% alcohol by volume.
• The Villacher Hugo is a mixed drink made from mint, lemon and elderberry with 9.8 ° original wort and 2.0% alcohol by volume.
• The Villacher Pur is brewed with sapphire hops, has an original gravity of 9.5 ° and 4.0% alcohol by volume.
• The Villacher Oktoberbräu is brewed with caramel malt, has an original gravity of 12.9 ° and 5.3% alcohol by volume.
• The Villacher Radler is a beer with 10.8 ° original wort and 2.4% alcohol by volume
• The Villacher Radler Naturtrüb is a shandy with a slight cloudiness with 9.8 ° original wort and 2.0% alcohol by volume
• The Villacher Pils is a subtle bitter note and fine aromatic taste with 11.7 ° original wort and 4.9% alcohol by volume
• The Villacher Bockbier is a seasonal strong beer specialty that is sold at Christmas time with 16.4 ° original wort and 6.9% alcohol by volume
• The Villacher Freilich is the first non-alcoholic beer in Carinthia
