Pieter Nuyts
Pieter Nuyts (* 1598 in Middelburg ; † December 11, 1655 ) was a Dutch explorer and governor .
Between 1626 and 1627, Pieter Nuyts explored around 1,600 kilometers of the South Australian coast on the ship Gulden Zeepaerdt (Golden Sea Horse) under the command of François Thijssen and mapped it. Many places in Australia were named after him, including the Nuyts Archipelago archipelago with the 53.5 square kilometer Nuyts Archipelago Conservation Park located on it in the Great Australian Bight , but also the Nuytsia floribunda , a plant species native to this area Belt family .
From June 28, 1627 to May 9, 1630 he was governor of the Dutch colony of Formosa, today's island of Taiwan .
