Piffche

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A piffche (also Pfiffche or Piffchen ) is a unit of volume used for wine in the Rheingau and Rheinhessen - especially in Mainz and Worms . It corresponds to 0.1 liters and is therefore the smallest unit of measurement for this drink.

The origin of the name is unclear. Possibly the word derives from the old measure of measure whistle . Another explanation is that this relatively small amount of wine is like a short whistle or can be drunk during this time.
