Pilmuir House

Pilmuir House is a mansion near the Scottish town of East Saltoun in the East Lothian Council Area . In 1971 the building was included in the Scottish Monuments List in the highest category A. William Cairns had Pilmuir House built in 1624. It is considered a rare example of a residential building belonging to a laird from the 17th century that has largely been preserved unchanged . The only revisions to be mentioned are minor alterations in the early 18th century.

The associated pigeon tower dates from 1624. 1000 stone nesting boxes are installed inside the elongated quarry stone building.

The two-story mansion is isolated around 1.5 km northeast of East Saltoun. The north-facing front is designed asymmetrically. The stair tower protrudes in the middle, at the foot of which the entrance door with a profiled border leads into the building. Above it is a coat of arms plate with the initials "GH" and "AH". A bay window protrudes to the right , while a small part of the building with a sloping roof emerges to the left of the tower . The staff entrance is located there. The back of the building is three axes wide. In the central axis there is a curved front staircase with a stone balustrade from the 18th century. The roofs are covered with gray slate, the gables designed as a stepped gable .

Pilmuir Lodge

The Pilmuir Lodge is located directly north of the main house and is independently classified as a Category C monument. The building with a T-shaped floor plan, slate- roofed gable roof and gable and ridge-mounted chimneys dates from the middle of the 19th century. Parts of a previous structure may have been integrated into the building. The central entrance gate is equipped with a fighter window . The facades are plastered with Harl . The corner stones were left out.
