The Pinipel Atoll forms the atoll group of the Green Islands with the atoll Nissan about 2 km to the south . The atolls are located in the Pacific Ocean about 130 km east of the island of New Ireland ( Papua New Guinea ).
geography
The atoll is dominated by the narrow main island of Pinipel , which encompasses the entire east side of the atoll. The uninhabited islands of Sentinel and Sau lie on the north-western rim of the reef .
population
According to the 2000 census, the atoll had around 900 inhabitants.
