The Nissan Atoll forms the atoll group of the Green Islands with the Pinipel atoll located about 2 km to the north . The atolls are located in the Pacific Ocean about 130 km east of the island of New Ireland ( Papua New Guinea ).
geography
The atoll is dominated by the main island of Nissan (also called Green Island), which almost completely surrounds its lagoon . The tiny island of Han is located in the middle of the 50 km² lagoon . On the north-western and northern edge of the atoll are the islands of Brahun Island and Sirot Island .
population
Nissan had about 6,810 inhabitants in 2011.
