Pinkuylluna or Pinkulluna ( Quechua , Spanish spelling Pincuylluna, Pinculluna ) is an archaeological site on a mountain of the same name in Peru in the Cusco region northeast of the city of Ollantaytambo .

location

The building complex is located on a hill between the rivers Patakancha (Patacancha) and Urubamba at almost 3000  m . It was probably built during the Inca period. To the northeast, the terrain rises sharply to heights of over 4000 m.

building

The remains of the three large, barrack-like, elongated buildings are strategically located above the important trade route along the two rivers. They are related to a nearby cave, the fortification of a local ruler and other objects.

Presumably there were guards who controlled the trade route all year round and protected the nearby mountain fortress. Both valleys are clearly visible from there. The long winters made massive structures necessary. An occasionally mentioned use as a granary is unlikely in view of the impassable exposed location at more than 200 meters above the fertile river valleys.
