The pioneer calendar was an annual pocket- size calendar in the German Democratic Republic . The editors were the Central Council of the FDJ , Young Pioneers Department and the central management of the pioneer organization Ernst Thälmann ; the calendar was printed by children's book publisher Berlin . The pioneer calendar was produced from 1959 (1960 edition) to 1989 (1990 edition); the target group were the Thälmann pioneers in the 4th to 7th grade.

Part of the 235 to 250 page pioneer calendar was the calendar of the respective year, which offered space for your own entries for each day, but also contained the important socialist social and political events. The calendar also contained a great deal of additional information. If they had a political content, these were mostly strongly propagandistic . In addition to the political content, numerous articles on scientific and technical topics were also published in the pioneer calendar, along with historical biographies as well as games, songs and poems.
