Pioneer Cup

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Pioneer Cup was a team competition organized in various sports in children and youth sports in the German Democratic Republic (GDR). The competitions took place at the district and national level and were played in an elimination mode over several rounds. In terms of value, the pioneer cup was comparable to the district and GDR championships as well as the corresponding competitions of the children and youth spartakiad.

In most of the sports in which the pioneer cup was held, it represented the corresponding team competition in addition to the individual disciplines taking place in the context of the district and GDR championships as well as the Spartakiads of the other types of event.

The name of the pioneer cup was derived from the pioneer organization Ernst Thälmann , the political mass organization for children in the GDR.
