The Pira is a Malay sword that is also used in other countries (e.g. the Philippines ).

history

The Pira was developed by the Malay tribes as a tool and weapon .

description

The Pira has a slightly curved blade (cut off) at the tip . It has no hollow grind and no central ridge. The blade looks very similar to the European " falchion ". The blade is sharp on the concave side and is about 40 cm long. Some versions have a widening in the front area, similar to the Arabic "Jelman". The handle (handle) has a metal ferrule and is carved from wood or horn. It is elongated and tapers thin at the end. The sheaths are made of wood and decorated with traditional carvings, or covered with rattan .
