Piranschahr ( Persian پیرانشهر, Kurdish پیرانشار, Pîranşar) is a city in the Kurdish regions of West Azerbaijan Province in Iran . It is located in the province of West Azerbaijan and is the capital of the district of the same name ( Bachsch ). It is 1449 m high and has over 123,000 inhabitants.
Former senior vice president of Google and current chairman of Twitter , Omid Kordestani, was born in Piranschahr but grew up in Tehran.

Piranshahr is one of the oldest cities in Iran and its foundations date from the pre-Islamic period of Iran and the creation of the Medes Empire .
