The Pirates of the Mississippi was an American country band from the 1990s, which, despite a positive assessment of the music scene, failed to achieve great commercial success. Her biggest hit was Feed Jake in 1991 .

Career

In the mid-1980s, five session and amateur musicians got together in Nashville to make music in their free time. The focus was on the songwriters Bill McCorvey (born July 4, 1959 in Montgomery, Alabama) and Rich Alves (born May 25, 1953 in Pleasanton, California). Other members were the drummer Jimmy Lowe (born August 2, 1955 in Atlanta, Georgia), the bassist Dean Townson (born April 2, 1959 in Battle Creek, Michigan) and the steel guitarist Pat Seavers (born November 10, 1952 in Camden , South Carolina).

You played in smaller clubs on weekends and gradually built a following in the scene. The big labels soon became aware of the talented musicians. In 1989 a record deal was signed with Capitol. The first album, Pirates of the Mississippi , was released in mid-1990 and achieved respectable sales. The single Honky Tonk Blues moved up to number thirty on the country charts. The next but one single, Feed Jake , even made it to number fifteen and became the band's greatest success. The accompanying video was awarded several prizes and the band was voted Junior Group of the Year 1991 by the Academy of Country Music .

Her next album, Walk The Plank , was released in September 1991 and spawned a few singles that reached mid-top 100 positions. The sound, enriched with rock and blues elements, was received positively by the critics, but not by the general public. The sales figures fell steadily. After two disappointing albums, the Pirates lost their record deal in 1994. In the same year the steel guitarist Pat Severs was replaced by Greg Trostle. In 1995 they switched to the smaller Giant label.
