Piscinas de Marés
The Piscinas de Marés are a pool complex on the beach of the Portuguese community (Freguesia) Leça da Palmeira . It was built between 1961 and 1966 according to plans by the architect Álvaro Siza Vieira .
description
The Boa Nova tea house is located above the pool area designed as a terrace landscape. The complex includes two pools, a café, washing, toilet and changing rooms and technical systems to control the water quality.
The archaic- brutalist concrete structure forms, like a sculpture, seamlessly embedded in the rocky landscape, pools that make it possible to bathe in the water of the Atlantic, yet protected from the roaring surf that is typical here . Here you can see how large waves wash over and over again in the pool and stimulate the otherwise calm, warmed water a little.
Siza Vieira emphasizes the unusual homogeneity of the building and the landscape with the materials: the exposed concrete consists of a very granular cement to which the crushed rock of the coast is mixed. This creates an effect of embedding the level building in the rugged rocks.
