Pises observatory
The Pises Observatory ( Observatoire des Pises ) is an astronomical observatory in France .
It was built for the Astronomical Society of Montpellier ( Société Astronomique de Montpellier ) in the Cevennes National Park . The observatory is registered with the IAU under number 122. A total of 39 asteroids were discovered there between 1997 and 2009 .
The asteroid (18623) Pises was named after the place where it was discovered.
Instruments
- a telescope with a mirror diameter of 80 mm
- a Newtonian telescope with a mirror diameter of 210 mm
- a T400 Cassegrain telescope
- a T500 Newtonian telescope
The latter two are installed under a dome.
