The Strákagöng are a road tunnel in the north of Iceland two kilometers west of Siglufjörður .
The single-lane illuminated tunnel is 830 meters long and was opened in 1967. The Siglufjarðarvegur runs through it
, which was the only road connection before the Héðinsfjarðargöng opened in 2009 . It is the second oldest tunnel in Iceland (according to some sources that do not take into account the 30 meter long Arnarnessgöng , the oldest tunnel in Iceland). The tunnel crosses under the Strákar, a 676 meter high mountain reaching the sea. Before the tunnel was opened, the residents of Siglufjörður - along with the sea route - only got out of the village via a pass road built in the 1950s and crossing the 630 meter high Siglufjarðarskarð. However, the pass road was difficult to drive on and was also closed for seven to eight months a year due to weather conditions.
