Pitú is a brand for spirits . The Cachaça Pitú Original is best known . Cachaça is a Brazilian sugar cane spirit, which from fermented sugar cane juice burned is. With sales of the equivalent of 10.5 million 9-liter cases, Pitú ranked 25th among the world's most important spirits brands in 2013.

According to the manufacturer, Pitú was developed by Ferrer de Morais and Cândido Carneiro in northeastern Brazil in 1938. The drink got its name from the local colloquial term for Macrobrachium carcinus , a freshwater crab that occurs near the first Pitú distillery.

In the 1980s, imports to Germany began by the Anton Riemerschmid Group , which has been part of Underberg since 1996 . Pitú contributed significantly to the popularity of the Caipirinha cocktail . For a long time, Pitú was the only cachaça brand available nationwide in Germany and is still by far the market leader today.
